Recap: Clemson 27, Georgia Tech 13
Oct 23, 2010
Clemson jumped all over visiting Georgia Tech early, and did just enough the rest of the way to win a 27-13 decision on Saturday.
The host Tigers scored on three of their first four possessions, with Andre Ellington’s second touchdown run of the day giving them a 17-0 advantage less than a minute into the second period. Ellington finished with 166 yards rushing on 20 carries and added a receiving touchdown to help Clemson coach Dabo Swinney notch his first career victory over the Yellow Jackets.
The Tigers (4-3, 2-2 ACC) won because they did a much better job of slowing down Georgia Tech’s spread option rushing attack than they had in previous meetings. The Yellow Jackets (5-3, 3-2) entered the game ranked second nationally in rushing at better than 328 yards per game, but totaled just 242 against Clemson.
Nevertheless, the reigning ACC champions drew within 24-13 when quarterback Joshua Nesbitt and fullback Anthony Allen teamed up for a 9-yard scoring strike on the final play of the third period.
Allen finished with 130 yards of total offense (92 rushing, 38 receiving) to pace the Yellow Jackets.
