Forgive Dave Shinskie if he has nightmares at just the slightest mention of Virginia Tech.

The Boston College quarterback’s second encounter with the Hokies proved almost as disastrous as his first, sending the Eagles to disappointing 19-0 loss in Saturday’s ACC opener for both teams at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill.

Shinskie, who spent six years as a minor league baseball pitching prospect before picking up college football last fall, was again in over his head. A year after a terrible outing in Blacksburg, Shinskie completed just 11 of 25 attempts with two costly interceptions and a fumble before being yanked for backup Mike Marscovetra in the third period.

The three turnovers led to 13 Hokies' points.

Shinskie’s decision late in the first half to run for a potential game-tying touchdown, instead of throwing for it when his team had no time outs, backfired in an ugly way when he was tackled inbounds at the Virginia Tech 1-yard line. The half expired and the Eagles got nothing.

Darren Evans put Virginia Tech (2-2) ahead with a 4-yard touchdown run at the start of the second quarter. Kicker Chris Hazley tacked on four field goals in the second half for the Hokies, who travel to N.C. State next week.

Boston College fell to 2-1.
