Recap: Indiana 38, Western Kentucky 21

Ben Chappell threw three touchdown pass and ran for another score, leading Indiana to a 38-21 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday.

Bobby Rainey's touchdown run in the first quarter gave the Hilltoppers a 7-0 lead, but Indiana scored the next 31 points, sending Western Kentucky to its 23rd consecutive loss, the longest active losing streak in the country among FBS teams.

The Hilltoppers (0-3) have been outscored 150-59 this season.

Chappell completed 32-of-42 passes for 366 yards and no interceptions to lead Indiana (2-0). The Hoosiers, who hadn't played in 16 days since routing Towson in their opener, took awhile to get going.

Rainey's 11-yard run gave the Hilltoppers (0-3) the lead with 9:30 left in the first, but the Hoosiers took control, scoring 17 points in the second quarter.

Chappell's 11-yard touchdown pass to Damarlo Belcher with 13:50 left in the period tied the game. Mitch Ewald's 27-yard field goal with six minutes to go put Indiana ahead for good. Chappell's 3-yard pass to Tandon Doss with 15 seconds left before halftime gave the Hoosiers a 17-7 lead.

Chappell's 1-yard run pushed the margin to 24-7 with 9:55 left in the third quarter. Chappell then hit Ted Bolser with an 11-yard scoring pass with 20 seconds remaining in the third.

Rainey, who gained 105 yards on 21 carries, scored on another 11-yard run at the 13:05 mark of the fourth quarter, but Nick Turner's 24-yard run with 8:15 left added a score for Indiana.

Kawaun Jakes hit Marcus Vasquez with a 31-yard touchdown pass with 5:30 left in the game. Jakes completed 10-of-15 passes for 125 yards.
