Boston College 86, Virginia Tech 75: Ryan Anderson had a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds to give the visiting Eagles their first Atlantic Coast Conference victory and keep the Hokies winless in league play.
Lonnie Jackson had 22 points, including five 3-pointers, and seven rebounds, and Olivier Hanlan added 17 points, eights rebounds and five steals to help Boston College (9-6, 1-1 ACC) win for the sixth time in seven games and improve to 2-1 on the road.
Erick Green had 24 points and nine assists to lead Virginia Tech (9-6, 0-2), which fell to 7-2 at home. Green, who entered the game as the nation’s leading scorer at 24.6 points, has scored at least 21 in 14 of 15 games. Jarell Eddie had 21 points and six rebounds for the Hokies, who started the season 7-0 but have lost six of their last eight games, including the last four.
Boston College trailed by as many as six points in the first half but took a 27-26 lead on Hanlan’s free throw with 2:53 left before halftime. The Eagles led 32-26 at intermission. Virginia Tech pulled as close as three points, 61-58, on C.J. Barksdale’s layup with 7:02 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston College’s Anderson finished one rebound shy of recording his fifth double-double this season. … Virginia Tech entered the game ranked last in the conference in scoring defense, giving up 74.6 points. … Virginia Tech freshman forward Marshall Wood did not play. He has been sidelined since suffering a fractured left foot in a 78-73 loss to visiting Georgia Southern on Dec. 15.
