53: Freshmen Gary Harris and Denzel Valentine led the Spartans with
12 apiece, as Michigan State pulled away in the second half to earn a road
victory over the Falcons.
Bowling Green (5-5) took a
one-point lead with 10:27 to play on Chauncey Orr's 3-pointer, but
the Spartans went on a 9-0 run over the next 4:24, capped by Keith
Appling's free throws to make it 49-41.
Branden Dawson added 10 points
and a team-high seven rebounds for Michigan State (10-2).
Orr led the Falcons with 16
points on 6-for-7 shooting, including hitting 3-of-3 from 3-point
range. Jordon Crawford added 10 and seven assists.
The Spartans held Bowling Green
to 32.8 percent from the field, including 26.3 percent from 3-point
range.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Michigan State
continued its streak of outrebounding every opponent this season,
winning the board battle 36-31. … A'uston Calhoun had nine points
for the Falcons, becoming the 40th player in school
history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. … Michigan State returns
home for a non-conference tilt with Texas on Saturday. Bowling Green
has a quick turnaround, traveling to face South Florida on Friday.
