Middle Tennessee 65, Mississippi 62: Kerry Hammonds made a short jumper with 40 seconds left to break a tie and the Blue Raiders held on to hand the visiting Rebels their first loss.
Marshall Henderson made a 3-pointer with 2:06 remaining to cap a 7-0 run that tied the game 59-59 for Ole Miss (6-1) before Hammonds broke free on the left side of the lane. Middle Tennessee (7-2) forced a couple of misses and made its free throws to hold on from there.
Marcos Knight led the way with 14 points for Middle Tennessee, which also beat the Rebels last December. Hammonds had seven points off the bench for the Blue Raiders, who led by as much as eight in the second half.
Henderson finished with 17 points, while Nick Williams and Murphy Holloway added 11 each for Ole Miss, which turned the ball over 17 times.
The Rebels led 26-22 before Middle Tennessee scored the next 11 points to take its biggest lead of the first half. The Blue Raiders, who scored 18 points off 10 Mississippi turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, settled for a 33-29 halftime advantage.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Middle Tennessee outscored the Rebels 26-6 off the bench. … Ole Miss freshman point guard Derrick Millinghaus returned after missing the last three games with a knee injury and scored two points in six minutes. … Middle Tennessee is 19-2 at home since the beginning of last season.
