Recap

Mavericks 99, Hornets 87: Darren Collison came off the bench to score a game-high 25 points as host Dallas extended its streak of non-losing seasons to 13 with the victory.

Dirk Nowitzki finished with 16 points and nine rebounds and Shawn Marion added 15 points for the Mavericks (41-41), who last finished under .500 in the 1999-2000 season with a 40-42 mark. Owner Mark Cuban bought the franchise in January of that season.

Al-Farouq Aminu scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds and Eric Gordon also scored 16 points for New Orleans (27-55), which finished the season with a five-game losing streak. The Hornets played without starting point guard Greivis Vasquez, who began the night with a NBA-best 704 assists but sat out with an ankle injury.

Dallas gradually built up a 47-39 halftime lead despite the fact Nowitzki missed his first four shots and didn't score until 5:16 remained in the second quarter. But the Mavericks, who didn't turn the ball over in the first 24 minutes, forced 12 first-half turnovers that they converted into 13 points.

New Orleans closed to within 51-45 early in the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Ryan Anderson, but Nowitzki heated up after that, scoring nine points as Dallas built up a 75-64 lead after three quarters. The Hornets never got closer than six points the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: This was the final game with the Hornets nickname for New Orleans. The team will change its name to the Pelicans next season. ... Aminu grabbed 14 rebounds in the first 14 minutes. The team record for most rebounds in a game is 23 shared by Larry Johnson and Tyson Chandler. ... Thanks to Collison's big night, the Mavericks finished with a 48-15 edge in bench scoring.
