Memphis 109, Minnesota 89

O.J. Mayo scored a season-high 29 points and Rudy Gay added 25 as the Memphis Grizzlies posted a coast-to-coast 109-89 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night at FedEx Forum.

Mayo was 11-for-21 from the floor and added five 3-pointers, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Mike Conley added 14 points, 11 assists and seven steals for the Grizzlies, who held the Timberwolves to 34.8 percent shooting and forced 28 turnovers.

Memphis (2-1) used a 19-0 run early in the first quarter to take a 23-4 lead just 6:12 into the game. Gay drained a pair of 3-pointers and Conley added another as the pair combined for 13 points in the run.

Mayo added another triple in the quarter as Memphis opened a 34-19 lead and drained two more in the final 41 seconds of the half after Minnesota had closed within nine. Memphis had just four 3-pointers in each of its first two games but nailed six in the first half Saturday and eight overall.

The Grizzlies stretched the lead to 24 in the fourth quarter and the closest the Timberwolves got in the second half was 87-75 after three quarters.

Wayne Ellington scored 15 points and Kevin Love added 14 poinhs and 13 rebounds for Minnesota (1-2), which outrebounded Memphis 57-43.
