Recap

Giants 2, Padres 0:
Pablo Sandoval homered and Tim Lincecum worked into the seventh inning as San Francisco edged visiting San Diego for the second straight game.

Lincecum (2-0) turned in his best outing of the young season, allowing four hits while striking out a season-high eight with two walks over 6 2/3 innings. Sergio Romo worked a perfect ninth inning for his league-leading eighth save.

Padres starter Andrew Cashner (0-1) walked Angel Pagan to start the fourth inning before Pablo Sandoval broke an 0-for-10 skid with a one-out homer to right field. Cashner started in place of Clayton Richard, who was scratched three hours before the game because of flu-like symptoms.

Cashner exited after giving up two runs on two hits over four innings. The Padres put two runners on with two outs against Lincecum in the seventh before Jose Mijares ended the inning by getting pinch hitter Mark Kotsay to fly out to right field.

San Diego threatened again in the eighth, putting runners on the corners before Santiago Casilla induced Yonder Alonso to ground into an inning-ending double play. The Padres have lost 14 of its last 18 games at AT&T Park.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Giants improved to 8-1 when scoring first … The Padres placed RHP Tyson Ross on the disabled list with a minor dislocation of his left shoulder and recalled RHP Thad Weber from Triple-A Tucson. …Six of the last seven Padres losses have been by two runs or fewer.
