Giants 2, Marlins 1 (11): Hector Sanchez delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the 11th inning and host San Francisco snapped Miami’s nine-game winning streak at AT&T Park.
Gregor Blanco led off the 11th with an infield single off Mike Dunn (2-2) and the Giants loaded the bases before Sanchez dropped a bloop single in front of left fielder Justin Ruggiano. Sanchez's third career walk-off hit gave the Giants’ their first win over Miami at AT&T Park since July 28, 2010.
The Marlins had two runners on with one out in the 11th, but Sandy Rosario (2-0) struck out Adeiny Hechavarria and Hunter Pence made a diving catch of Placido Polanco’s flare to right field to end the inning.
Giants starter Barry Zito, pitching three days after the death of his father, allowed Ed Lucas’ first career homer in the first before holding the Marlins scoreless over the next six frames. The veteran left-hander threw 112 pitches and lowered his home ERA to 1.98.
Zito reached base in the fifth on a fielder’s choice and tied the game when he scored on Blanco’s ground-rule double off Jacob Turner, who received his fourth consecutive no-decision despite tossing seven innings of one-run ball.
