Recap

Tigers 6, Twins 1: Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder each hit two-run homers and Justin Verlander continued his domination of visiting Minnesota with seven innings of one-run ball.

Verlander (3-2) lowered his ERA to 1.83 by striking out eight and allowing five hits to improve to 9-0 in his last 10 starts against the Twins. Alex Avila also had a solo blast as the Tigers extended their winning streak to five games.

Wilkin Ramirez had two hits and an RBI double off Verlander, who tossed five scoreless innings against Minnesota in the season opener. Twins right-hander Vance Worley (0-4) lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits.

Cabrera staked Verlander to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an opposite-field blast that barely cleared the wall in right field. Ramirez's double in the second cut the lead in half, but Avila went deep in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 lead.

Detroit broke it open with a three-run fifth. A pair of singles and an RBI groundout by Torii Hunter brought home one run before Fielder hit a bullet into the right-field stands for his second homer in as many nights and seventh of the season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cabrera's two-run shot in the first inning was the 325th of his career - tying him for 106th all-time - and gave him 28 RBIs, the most by any Detroit player in April since at least 1921. ... Twins C Joe Mauer's third-inning single halted an 0-for-21 drought, the longest hitless streak of his career. Mauer entered the contest batting .373 lifetime against Verlander. ... DH Victor Martinez had three hits for Detroit, which has outscored the opposition 35-11 during the five-game win streak. ... The Tigers' pitching staff tied an American League record with a fifth straight game with at least 10 strikeouts.
