Recap

Royals 2, Indians 1: Pinch runner Elliot Johnson scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning with the bases loaded as visiting Kansas City won for the 11th time in its last 13 games to climb back to .500.

Billy Butler led off the ninth with a double and Johnson took his place, moving to third after a walk and David Lough's bunt single before sprinting home when Matt Albers’ pitch in the dirt got by Carlos Santana. Aaron Crow (3-2) struck out two in the eighth to earn the victory and Greg Holland retired the final two batters with a runner at third to earn his 15th save.

Santana homered and Mark Reynolds had a pair of hits for the Indians, who left the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings and stranded 11 in all. Reliever Bryan Shaw (0-1) gave up one run and two hits in two-thirds of an inning to take the loss.

Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco retired the first 13 batters he faced before Lorenzo Cain singled in the fifth, and later struck out Salvador Perez with two on and two out in the sixth. Carrasco allowed one run on four hits and one walk over 7 1/3 innings in his third major-league outing since undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery, which caused him to miss the 2012 season.

Santana broke the scoreless tie by belting Kansas City starter James Shields’ first pitch of the sixth into the right-field seats for his 10th of the season. Chris Getz singled to lead off the eighth and later scored on Eric Hosmer’s two-out bloop double to center field off Shaw to tie the game at 1.

GAME NOTEBOOK: An MRI taken on Indians 1B Nick Swisher’s sore left shoulder Sunday showed no structural damage. Swisher received a cortisone shot for the injury Monday and is not expected to play in the series. … Shields allowed one run on four hits and four walks over the first six innings, going without a victory for his ninth straight start while lowering his ERA to 2.72. … Indians RHP Corey Kluber and Jason Kipnis were named co-American League Players of the Week on Monday for June 10-16.
