Diamondbacks 4, Padres 2:
Daniel Hudson pitched eight strong innings and visiting Arizona scored the go-ahead run on a balk while handing San Diego its seventh loss in eight games.

Paul Goldschmidt homered and Willie Bloomquist had three hits for the Diamondbacks, who are 2-3 on their six-game road trip.

Hudson (2-1) gave up two runs and five hits while winning for the first time since April 7. The right-hander struck out five and walked one in his second outing since returning from a shoulder injury.

J.J. Putz allowed two baserunners in the ninth before retiring Jesus Guzman on an infield pop-up for his 12th save in 15 opportunities.

Gerardo Parra reached on an infield hit with one out in the seventh and moved to third on a single by Bloomquist. Parra scored when Joe Thatcher (0-1) was called for a balk as he stepped off the rubber.

The Diamondbacks added an insurance run in the eighth when Parra drew a bases-loaded walk.

Arizona loaded the bases in the fourth on two walks and a bunt single and took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Hudson. The Padres responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Cameron Maybin and Yonder Alonso.

The Diamondbacks tied the contest in the fifth on a mammoth two-out homer to left by Goldschmidt.

San Diego starter Edinson Volquez allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked five.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hudson is 5-1 in six career starts against the Padres. … Volquez hasn’t won since beating Philadelphia on May 12. … Goldschmidt has a career-best 11-game hitting streak and is batting .400 during the stretch. … Padres OF Carlos Quentin is 9-for-19 in five games since returning from a knee injury.
