Recap
Dodgers 3, Diamondbacks 1: Clayton Kershaw outdueled Ian Kennedy as host Los Angeles won its fifth straight game.
Andre Ethier hit his eighth homer of the season as the Dodgers improved to 24-11, best in the majors.
Kershaw (3-1) pitched seven shutout innings, striking out six and giving up four hits and three walks. Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.
Kennedy (3-3) allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits in six innings.
Kennedy’s first-inning throwing error set up Los Angeles’ first run. Dee Gordon singled and moved to third on Kennedy’s wild pickoff attempt before scoring on a groundout by Mark Ellis.
Ethier homered in the sixth inning and the Dodgers added another run later in the inning. A.J. Ellis and James Loney hit back-to-back singles and Ellis scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Kennedy.
Aaron Hill blasted a one-out homer in the eighth off Dodgers reliever Josh Lindblom.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Dodgers placed center fielder Matt Kemp on the 15-day disabled list after the game with a strained left hamstring. Kemp sat out Monday, ending his consecutive games played streak at 399 - the longest active run in the majors. Outfielder Jerry Sands was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Kemp's roster spot. … Kennedy threw a pitch behind Kershaw in the third inning. Kershaw
responded by throwing a ball inside at Kennedy in the fifth and both
teams were warned by the home plate umpire Marvin Hudson. … Arizona catcher Miguel Montero fanned twice against Kershaw and has struck out 14 times in his last eight games. … Ellis went 1-for-4 and has reached base in 24 straight games.
