Recap

Cardinals 3, Giants 1: Carlos Beltran hit a two-run homer and Adam Wainwright tossed seven strong innings as St. Louis bounced back from a demoralizing loss to salvage a four-game split with visiting San Francisco.

Beltran staked Wainwright to an early lead with his 27th homer, a two-run blast to left.

Wainwright (10-10) allowed just one run on five hits while striking out seven. He improved to 2-4 against the Giants.

The Giants, who routed the Cardinals 15-0 on Wednesday, wasted a quality outing from left-hander Madison Bumgarner (12-7), who gave up three runs on three hits over six innings. He struck out seven and retired right straight before Jon Jay's double leading off the sixth.

Jason Motte pitched the ninth for his 25th save.

Marco Scutaro, who drove in a career-high seven runs in Wednesday's blowout, plated the Giants' only run with a sacrifice fly.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bumgarner had allowed two or fewer runs in five straight starts. ... San Francisco's Buster Posey went 1-for-3 to extend his hit streak to 13 games. ... Jay went 2-for-3 to finish the series 10-for-15. ... Rafael Furcal and Allen Craig both returned to the lineup and went hitless for the Cardinals after sitting out Wednesday.
