Recap
Rockies 8, Cardinals 2: Rookie Josh Rutledge homered for the fourth consecutive game and host Colorado snapped a seven-game losing streak.
Wilin Rosario also clubbed a two-run homer and Jordan Pacheco had three hits and two RBIs as the Rockies avoided a sweep and won for only the fifth time in 18 games since the All-Star break.
Rex Brothers (6-2) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Alex White before Matt Belisle and Rafael Betancourt finished up with an inning apiece.
White, making his first start since June 24, carried a two-hit shutout into the sixth but was touched for two runs on Jon Jay's RBI triple and Carlos Beltran's run-scoring double and exited after 5 1/3 innings.
Lance Lynn, bidding to join R.A. Dickey as the only 14-game winners in the NL, allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings as St. Louis finished 3-3 on its six-game road trip.
After Tyler Colvin doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh, Rutledge followed by extending his hitting streak to seven games with a two-run blast off Fernando Salas (1-4), becoming the first rookie in franchise history to go deep in four straight games.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Rockies 1B Todd Helton made his 9,000th plate appearance and drew his second walk of the game and 1,293rd of his career. ... Cardinals C Yadier Molina sat out the game with a sprained right thumb. He is scheduled for X-rays on Friday. SS Rafael Furcal (back) sat out his fifth consecutive game. ... The Rockies optioned outfielder Andrew Brown to Triple-A to make room for White. Colorado RF Michael Cuddyer (oblique) remained sidelined but hopes to return Friday. ... The Cardinals return home to host Milwaukee for three games while Colorado will host San Francisco for three games.
