Recap

DODGERS 4, PIRATES 1: Juan Rivera drove in two runs and Chad Billingsley gave up one run over six innings as Los Angeles moved to 5-1 for the first time in 13 years.

Billingsley (2-0) gave up a home run to Clint Barmes in the third inning, but the Pirates managed just five other hits. Billingsley did not walk a batter and struck out four, and Javy Guerra worked a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save.

Leading 2-1, the Dodgers added two insurance runs in the seventh inning off Evan Meek on RBI singles by Rivera and Tony Gwynn Jr.

The heart of the Dodgers’ order – Matt Kemp, Rivera and Andre Ethier – combined to go 8-for-12 with three RBIs. Ethier is tied with David Freese for the National League lead in RBIs with 10.

Erik Bedard (0-2) allowed two runs on eight hits over five innings in his second career start against the Dodgers. The Pirates have dropped five straight games at Dodger Stadium and have lost seven of their last eight games in Los Angeles.
