Recap

Cardinals 3, Brewers 2:
St. Louis rallied for three runs in the ninth inning off closer John Axford to snap their three-game skid and beat host Milwaukee for the 11th time in 14 tries.

With Milwaukee up 2-0, Matt Holliday bounced a bases-loaded, two-out single through the right side, tying the game and handing Axford (2-6) his sixth blown save in 22 chances. Allen Craig followed with the go-ahead RBI hit off Axford, who was hurt by two walks.

The stunning rally erased a terrific performance from Brewers rookie Michael Fiers, who allowed four hits in seven scoreless innings.

Corey Hart broke a scoreless seventh-inning tie with a monster solo homer to center. Hart's 435-foot shot came on a hanging slider from All-Star Lance Lynn and extended Hart's hitting streak to 10 games. Ryan Braun added an RBI double in the eighth, but Axford could not protect the lead.

The Cardinals improved to 15-24 in games decided by one or two runs.

Holliday extended his hitting streak to 15 games with an eighth-inning single before his ninth-inning heroics. Jason Motte (4-3) earned the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, fanning two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Cardinals optioned reliever Maikel Cleto to Triple-A Memphis and promoted Trevor Rosenthal from the Double-A Springfield rotation to the major-league bullpen. Rosenthal struck out 83 batters in 94 innings this season. … Cardinals RF Carlos Beltran, who was out of the starting lineup, is in a 7-for-41 slump after flying out in the ninth.  ... Lynn struck out 10 in seven innings, allowing six hits. ... Hart, the first baseman, made a sliding catch near the dugout in the fourth inning.
