Recap
Reds 6, Padres 5: Chris Heisey hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning and visiting Cincinnati held on for its second straight win over San Diego.
Heisey broke a 3-3 tie with his home run to center field off Clayton Richard (6-8), who gave up six runs over six innings. Drew Stubbs added an insurance run when his grounder scored Devin Mesoraco.
Reds starter Homer Bailey (7-6) improved to 4-0 in six career starts against San Diego after giving up four runs (two earned) with eight strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.
Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the ninth inning for his 10th save and first since June 26.
Stubbs put Cincinnati ahead with his ninth homer in the first inning before Chris Denorfia tied the game with a solo shot in the bottom half.
Cincinnati, which remained one game behind Pittsburgh in the National League Central, moved ahead with two runs in the fifth inning on Mesoraco’s grounder and Bailey’s RBI double.
San Diego pulled even with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before falling behind on Heisey’s third home run of the season.
The Padres added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but they left two runners on in the seventh and Denorfia flied out to center against Logan Ondrusek with the bases loaded in the eighth.
