Cubs 3, Cardinals 2 (10):
Alfonso Soriano drove in the winning run with a walk-off single in the 10th and Bryan LaHair tied it with a solo homer in the ninth as host Chicago stunned St. Louis for the second straight night.

LaHair was intentionally walked with first base open and two outs in the 10th, leaving the go-ahead run at second base with Soriano coming up. Fernando Salas (0-1) got it to 3-2 before Soriano took a low slider and ripped a hard shot that skipped off the glove of second baseman Tyler Greene to plate Tony Campana.

James Russell (1-0) got credit for the win and has yet to allow a run in eight appearances.

For the second night in a row, the Cardinals blew a save in the ninth inning. This time it was Marc Rzepczynski, who, after a scoreless eighth inning, was brought back out for the ninth.

Rzepczynski delivered a first-pitch sinker to leadoff hitter LaHair, who went with the pitch and drove it the other way for an opposite-field homer. That snapped a nine-game homerless streak for the Cubs.

St. Louis had taken a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning on Matt Holliday’s two-run blast off Carlos Marmol.

The late-inning fireworks obscured a pitchers' duel between starters Adam Wainwright and Jeff Samardzija. Wainwright, who entered with a 9.88 ERA, surrendered one run on six hits while striking out seven in six innings.

Samardzija struck out nine in 6 2/3 scoreless frames.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cubs right-hander Michael Bowden, who was acquired in the Marlon Byrd trade over the weekend, made his NL debut by working out of a jam in the ninth. … Chicago SS Starlin Castro went 0-for-4 to snap an 11-game hitting streak. … St. Louis INF/OF Allen Craig (knee) played his second rehab game Tuesday for Class A Palm Beach, going 0-for-4 as the designated hitter. … Cardinals manager Mike Matheny was ejected in the 10th inning.
