Angels 9, Royals 7:
Kendrys Morales hit a two-run homer to tie it in the eighth inning and Torii Hunter forced in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk as visiting Los Angeles moved closer in the American League wild-card race.

Howie Kendrick doubled in two runs and Alberto Callaspo added a two-run single for the Angels, who came from behind twice to earn their second straight win and pull within 2 1/2 games of the New York Yankees for the second wild-card spot.

Kansas City held a two-run lead with one out in the eighth when it decided to bring in Tim Collins (5-3) to face Morales, who took the first pitch out to left to knot it at 7-7. Collins yielded a pair of singles and hit Albert Pujols to load the bases before Jeremy Jeffress came on and walked Hunter.

Jordan Walden (3-2) retired the only batter he faced to earn the win in relief, and Kevin Jepsen and Scott Downs combined on the eighth before Ernesto Frieri took care of the ninth for his 19th save.

The Royals took the lead in the second on back-to-back homers by Billy Butler and Mike Moustakas. The Angels fought back with a four-run fourth, but Kansas City came back with a three-run sixth inning highlighted by a two-run homer from Jeff Francoeur.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Butler’s solo homer was the 100th of his career and 26th on the season. … Angels SS Erick Aybar went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. It was his second four-hit game of 2012. … Los Angeles rookie Kole Calhoun recorded a run-scoring groundout in the ninth for his first major-league RBI.
