Recap

Tigers 7, Royals 1: Prince Fielder belted a three-run homer, Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run blast and Delmon Young homered for the fourth straight game as host Detroit finished a three-game sweep of Kansas City.

Max Scherzer struck out seven in seven innings for the Tigers, who enter the All-Star break with a five-game winning streak after beating the Royals for the seventh time in eight meetings this season.

Kansas City brought in reliever Tim Collins to face Fielder with two on and one out in the fifth. Fielder unloaded on the first pitch from Collins with a mammoth 417-foot shot into the right-field seats to give the Tigers a 6-1 advantage.

Scherzer (8-5) allowed just one run, five hits and one walk to win for the third time in four starts.

Brennan Boesch singled with two out in the second inning prior to Peralta’s homer that gave Detroit a 2-0 lead.

Kansas City’s Salvador Perez homered in the third and Young answered in the fourth with a shot to center to make it 3-1.

Austin Jackson and Quintin Berry had fifth-inning singles prior to Fielder’s 15th homer of the campaign.

Peralta, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, laced a run-scoring double in the eighth.

Royals starter Everett Teaford (1-2) was charged with five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackson went 1-for-5 to stretch his career-best hitting streak to 15 games. … Kansas City’s Eric Hosmer went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts and is 4-for-24 over his last six games. … Scherzer has struck out 33 and walked just four in 27 innings over his last four starts. … Perez has at least one hit in 12 of 13 games since returning from a spring-training knee injury.
