Royals 5, White Sox 2: Salvador Perez delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning to snap a tie as host Kansas City completed a three-game sweep of American League Central-leading Chicago.
After All-Star Billy Butler drew a leadoff walk from Jesse Crain (2-2), pinch runner Jarrod Dyson stole second base. Perez, who opened the scoring with a two-run double in the sixth, followed with a base hit to center field that plated Dyson with the go-ahead run.
Mike Moustakas scored on an error four batters later and Lorenzo Cain added an RBI single as the Royals completed a 5-1 homestand with their ninth victory in 12 overall contests.
Greg Holland (6-3) retired all four batters he faced to register the win.
Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie flirted with a no-hitter, retiring the first 14 batters he faced and keeping the White Sox without a hit until Paul Konerko was credited with a two-out infield single in the seventh, even though shortstop Alcides Escobar's throw - which easily beat Konerko - was unable to be corralled by first baseman Eric Hosmer.
Guthrie proceeded to strike out Alex Rios to end the frame and needed just two pitches to retire the first two batters in the eighth before Dayan Viciedo and Ray Olmedo recorded back-to-back clean singles, ending the right-hander's afternoon.
Hosmer then cost Guthrie his potential third straight victory as Dewayne Wise's grounder off reliever Tim Collins went right through his legs, allowing two runs to score for a 2-2 tie.
Starter Jose Quintana yielded two runs over seven innings for the White Sox, who have lost five straight meetings with the Royals.
