Recap

Royals 9, White Sox 4:
Mike Moustakas homered and had four RBIs and Billy Butler had three run-scoring singles as host Kansas City prevailed despite Chicago's Adam Dunn belting his 400th career homer.

Eric Hosmer also homered and Alcides Escobar had four infield hits as the Royals collected 15 hits while beating Chicago for the second straight night.

Dunn's milestone shot came in the eighth for the White Sox, a two-run shot to center that pulled Chicago within 5-4. Butler had a two-out RBI in the bottom of the inning and Moustakas put the game away with a three-run blast into the bullpen in right field.

Bruce Chen (9-10) allowed two runs and five hits in six innings. He also defeated Jake Peavy (9-9) and the White Sox 3-2 on Aug. 7 in Chicago.

Kansas City jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Alex Gordon, who had three hits, delivered a run-scoring double in the first inning and Butler and Moustakas each had run-scoring singles in the third.

Butler smacked a run-scoring single in the fifth to make it a four-run game before Chicago got on the board on Paul Konerko’s two-run homer to left-center field in the sixth.

Hosmer homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-2.

Peavy failed to go at least six innings for the first time since May 15 and allowed five runs (three earned) and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The White Sox, who committed four errors, maintained their 1 1/2 game lead on Detroit, which lost 3-2 to Baltimore on Saturday.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Escobar is the first player since Roberto Alomar in 2003 to have four infield hits in one game. … Chicago’s Kevin Youkilis racked up his 1,000th career hit with a single to left in the eighth. … Butler has three or more RBIs 10 times this season. … Peavy has failed to win in his last seven starts against the Royals.
