Mariners 10, White Sox 8 (12): John Jaso delivered the tiebreaking double as visiting Seattle scored twice in the 12th inning to snap Chicago’s nine-game win streak.
Chone Figgins added a run-scoring single in the 12th and Ichiro Suzuki hit two of the Mariners’ four homers as Seattle defeated the White Sox for the first time in five meetings this season.
Michael Saunders and Justin Smoak also homered for the Mariners in a contest that featured eight homers. Seattle hit leadoff homers in each of the first three innings for the first time in franchise history. Ichiro went deep in the first and third innings, and Smoak homered in the second.
Tom Wilhelmsen (2-1) struck out four in three innings of one-hit relief and Hisashi Iwakuma worked a scoreless 12th for his second save to wrap up the four-hour, 16-minute contest.
Chicago tied the score 8-8 in the bottom of the eighth on Dayan Viciedo’s opposite-field homer to right off rookie Stephen Pryor, who was making his major-league debut.
Gordon Beckham hit a two-run homer as part of a three-hit, four-RBI day. A.J. Pierzynski and Alex Rios added solo shots for Chicago.
Jesus Montero led off the 12th with a double off Chicago’s Addison Reed (0-1). Pinch runner Munenori Kawasaki easily scored on Jaso’s double into the right-center field gap.
Saunders had four of Seattle’s 15 hits. Alejandro De Aza also had three hits for Chicago.
Chicago starter Gavin Floyd allowed four homers while giving up five runs and nine hits in five-plus innings. Seattle’s Hector Noesi allowed six runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The teams combined to use 16 pitchers – nine by Chicago.
