Recap
Tigers 3, White Sox 1: Rick Porcello pitched into the seventh inning and Detroit belted three solo home runs to take the rubber game of a home series with division rival Chicago.
Adam Dunn, who hit a game-winning two-run homer on Saturday, gave Chicago a 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the first inning. Austin Jackson tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the frame, and Prince Fielder gave Detroit the edge with a two-out homer off Dylan Axelrod (0-1) in the third.
Andy Dirks provided an insurance run with an eighth-inning home run off Hector Santiago.
Porcello (3-2) departed with a 2-1 lead after 6 1/3 innings but left two runners on base for relievers Octavio Dotel and Phil Coke, who each retired a batter to keep the Tigers on top.
Joaquin Benoit pitched a perfect eighth to set the table for Jose Valverde, who allowed a leadoff single to Alex Rios and walked Kosuke Fukudome to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with one out. Pinch hitter A.J. Pierzynski popped out and Chicago's comeback hopes were extinguished when Gordon Beckham struck out.
Axelrod pitched 4 1/3 innings for the White Sox, allowing two runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out four. Porcello finished with five strikeouts and two walks, scattering just four hits.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Tigers left 12 runners on base. ... Four consecutive Detroit starters have allowed two runs or fewer.
