Recap
Phillies 7, Diamondbacks 2: Cole Hamels pitched eight strong innings and Placido Polanco reached base five times as the Phillies won their first series at Chase Field in three years.
Hamels (3-1) won for the fourth time in five career decisions against the Diamondbacks, who have dropped seven of nine to fall under .500. The left-hander also drove in two runs with a looping sixth-inning single. Hamels, who struck out seven and scattered four hits, was still throwing 93 mph in the eighth inning.
Hunter Pence, in his second game back since injuring his shoulder, had a pair of RBI singles that scored Polanco each time. Polanco had two singles, two walks and an RBI double.
Arizona’s Trevor Cahill (1-2) allowed four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Diamondbacks leadoff hitter Willie Bloomquist went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts to raise his on-base percentage to .241. ... Arizona left fielder Jason Kubel threw out Pence at home in the first inning. … Phillies first baseman Ty Wiggington extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a pinch-hit single in the sixth. … The Phillies are off Thursday before hosting the Cubs in a four-game series. Arizona, also off Thursday, starts a 10-game trip Friday in Miami.
