Recap
Angels 9, Yankees 8: Mark Trumbo led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo home run and host Los Angeles overcame a first-inning injury to ace Jered Weaver to win its seventh straight game.
Trumbo belted his eighth homer of the season and second in as many days to deep left field off Cory Wade (0-1). He also doubled and tripled in the contest.
Kendrys Morales and Howie Kendrick had three RBIs apiece for the Angels, who snapped New York's winning streak at five games.
Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira hit solo homers for the Yankees, who blew a 3-0 first-inning lead before battling back with three runs in the seventh inning to tie it at 8-8.
Jordan Walden (2-1), the sixth pitcher for the Angels, worked two scoreless innings for the victory.
Los Angeles had to overcome a disastrous first inning to celebrate its first walk-off win of the year. The Angels committed two errors that led to three runs for the Yankees and watched Weaver depart after only 12 pitches with a lower-back injury.
Los Angeles responded with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning against Phil Hughes, who was roughed up for seven runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Morales' two-run double in the sixth extended Los Angeles' lead to 8-5, but the Yankees answered with three in the seventh capped by Russell Martin's two-run, two-out double.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Weaver was making his first home start since throwing a no-hitter on May 2. He hobbled off the mound after throwing a pitch to Robinson Cano and left the game after attempting a warmup pitch that had no velocity on it. It was the shortest outing of his career. ... Hughes is the second pitcher since 1997 (Runelvys Hernandez, 2006) to yield at least one homer in each of his first 10 starts of the season. ... Teixeira hit his fourth homer in four games and has driven in 10 runs during a five-game RBI streak. ... Angels RF Torii Hunter rejoined the team but was not in the lineup. He has missed 14 games since his 17-year-old son was charged with sexual assault in Texas.
