Recap

Twins 5, Red Sox 0: Samuel Deduno allowed two hits in six scoreless innings to win his third straight start as visiting Minnesota took the opener of a four-game series.

Brian Dozier hit a two-run homer among his three hits to help the Twins win in Boston for just the second time since 2008.

Denard Span and Ryan Doumit had RBI doubles and Ben Revere added a run-scoring single - all with two outs - as Minnesota dropped the Red Sox back to the .500 mark (53-53).

Deduno (3-0), making his fifth career start, permitted only a pair of hits by Adrian Gonzalez and has yielded just two runs during his three-game winning streak.

Casey Fien pitched a 1-2-3 seventh before Glen Perkins finished up with two perfect innings for his sixth save as the Twins halted a two-game skid.

Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester (5-9) absorbed his fourth consecutive defeat, allowing three runs on seven hits in eight innings. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter but is winless in his last six outings.

The Twins opened the scoring in the third on an RBI double by Span, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Revere followed with a single to plate Span and run his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games.

Minnesota tacked on a run in the sixth when Justin Morneau and Doumit hit back-to-back doubles to stretch the lead to 3-0.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Red Sox RHP Josh Beckett is expected to miss his scheduled start on Sunday. Beckett, who had to leave Tuesday's game against Detroit with back spasms, did not throw a bullpen session Thursday and is unlikely to throw one Friday. LHP Franklin Morales will likely start in his place. ... Revere has scored a run in seven consecutive games and 10 of 11 while Span has scored 10 times in the last 10 games. ... Gonzalez has five multi-hit games in his last six to raise his average to .302 - the highest since the last week of April. ... Deduno had allowed one run on four hits and nine walks in his last two starts.
