Recap

Orioles 6, Blue Jays 4:
Chris Davis homered three times and Zach Britton turned in 6 2/3 solid innings as host Baltimore spoiled the return of Jose Bautista.

Davis homered in each of his first three at-bats and totaled four RBIs in the first three-homer game of his career. It was also the first three-homer game by a member of the Orioles since Nick Markakis turned the trick in August 2006. Davis’ power display gave Baltimore its fourth win in the last six games and kept it in position for the second wild card spot in the American League.

Bautista, who was activated off the disabled list prior to the game after missing over a month with a left wrist injury, went 0-for-4 as the Blue Jays suffered their sixth consecutive loss.

Britton (3-1) struck out six and was charged with two runs on four hits and a pair of walks. The left-hander recorded 12 groundouts in recording his second consecutive win.

Davis tied it at 1-1 in the second with a solo homer out onto Eutaw Street past the right field seats off Carlos Villanueva (6-4). He then gave the Orioles the lead in the fourth inning when he took a 2-2 breaking ball into the back row in right-center for another solo blast.

Davis went to the opposite field off Steve Delabar in the sixth, sending a two-run shot into the third row in left for his career-high 23rd homer and a 5-1 cushion.

Villanueva was charged with four runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings to suffer his fourth loss in as many decisions.

Jeff Mathis hit a two-run homer off Matt Lindstrom in the ninth but closer Jim Johnson came on and finished out the win for his 39th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Davis struck out in the eighth inning to finish 3-for-4. … The Orioles recalled LHP Brian Matusz from Triple-A and designated LHP J.C. Romero for assignment. Matusz struck out the only batter he faced on Friday. … Baltimore activated INF Ryan Flaherty from the 15-day DL and optioned RHP Tommy Hunter to Double-A Bowie. … The Blue Jays optioned RHP Chad Beck to Triple-A to clear a spot for Bautista. … Toronto RHP Brandon Morrow (oblique) will start for the first time since June 11 when he takes the mound on Saturday.
