Recap
Pablo Sandoval hit for the cycle and drove in two runs as the San Francisco Giants built a large lead early and held on for an 8-5 victory over the host Colorado Rockies on Thursday.
San Francisco climbed within seven games of Arizona in the National League West and six of Atlanta in the wild-card race with 12 contests remaining.
After belting a two-run homer off Jhoulys Chacin (11-12) in the first inning, Sandoval singled in the second and doubled three frames later. He completed the 25th cycle in Giants history and first in over four years with a triple in the sixth.
Fred Lewis was the last Giant to hit for the cycle, accomplishing the feat on May 13, 2007, also at Coors Field.
Ryan Vogelsong (11-7) halted his personal five-game losing streak, allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Vogelsong also contributed offensively with two singles and two runs.
Santiago Casilla worked a scoreless ninth for his fourth save in five opportunities.
Brandon Belt homered and Cody Ross recorded two hits and an RBI for the Giants, who have won five in a row.
Jordan Pacheco and Chris Iannetta went deep for Colorado.
