Recap
Carlos Gomez smacked a three-run homer, one of three hit by the Milwaukee Brewers in a 7-3 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday that clinched home field in the first round of the playoffs.
Zack Greinke (16-6) limited the Pirates to two runs in six innings to finish 11-0 at home.
Corey Hart and Jonathan Lucroy belted solo homers for Milwaukee, which finished a major league-best 57-24 at home.
The Brewers will play the Arizona Diamondbacks in a National League Division Series beginning Saturday.
Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun went 0-for-4 and came up five points short of the New York Mets' Jose Reyes (.337) in his bid to win the league batting title.
Gomez's three-run blast in the fifth off Jeff Locke (0-3) gave the Brewers a 5-1 cushion. It was a career-high eighth homer for Gomez.
That was more than enough for Greinke, who became only the eighth pitcher since 1946 to notch at least 11 home wins without a loss.
Locke was tagged for five runs over four innings in his fourth career start as Pittsburgh fell to 4-38 in the last five seasons in Milwaukee and wrapped up its 19th consecutive losing season to increase its North American major sports franchise record.
