Recap

Ryan Braun snapped a tie with a three-run homer in the eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers clinched the National League Central title - their first division championship in 29 years - about 30 minutes after their 4-1 victory over the visiting Florida Marlins on Friday.

Prince Fielder snapped a 1-for-10 skid with his team-leading 35th homer of the season for Milwaukee, which won the title when St. Louis lost to Chicago 5-1.

Most of the 44,584 fans at Miller Park stayed to watch the finish of the Cardinals game, which set off a festive scene as players returned to the field to celebrate with the fans.

The Brewers last won their division in 1982 as a member of the American League East.

Milwaukee also maintained its one-game lead over Arizona for the second-best record in the NL. The Diamondbacks clinched the NL West title with a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday.

After failing to reach base in his first three at-bats, Braun deposited an offering from Clay Hensley (6-7) over the center field wall for his 32nd homer of the season. Braun is tied with New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes atop the National League with a .329 batting average.

Francisco Rodriguez (6-2) relieved starter Yovani Gallardo in the eighth and struck out both batters he faced. Gallardo, who struck out 11 over 7 1/3 innings, has fanned 36 in his last three games.

John Axford worked the ninth for his 44th save as Milwaukee improved to 5-0 against Florida this season.

Emilio Bonifacio had three hits and Bryan Petersen collected his 11th RBI of the season with a run-scoring single for Florida.
