Recap

Franklin Gutierrez delivered a tiebreaking two-run single and Felix Hernandez struck out 10 as the Seattle Mariners beat Florida 5-1 on Friday as the Marlins were the home team in Seattle.

Gutierrez’s seventh-inning single capped a three-run inning and Hernandez (8-6) gave up one run, two hits and walked two in eight innings as Seattle snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Marlins fell to 2-21 in June. The game was played in Seattle because of a concert by U2 at Florida’s home ballpark. National League rules were used.

Hernandez had Seattle’s only hit off Ricky Nolasco (4-4) through six innings when he slapped a single to right field in the second for the first hit by a pitcher in Safeco Field’s 12-year history.

Miguel Olivo had three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the ninth.

Florida’s only run came in the fourth when Hanley Ramirez singled to center, moved to second on a grounder, stole third and scored when John Buck struck out but reached safely on Hernandez’s wild pitch.

Seattle knotted the score in the seventh on Olivo’s fielder’s choice before Gutierrez stroked a bases-loaded single with two outs off Nolasco.

Nolasco allowed three runs and four hits in seven innings, and lost his fourth straight decision.
