Recap
Miguel Cabrera's RBI double keyed a three-run eighth inning that lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 6-3 victory over the host Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.
Trailing by one run entering the seventh inning, the Tigers evened the score on an RBI single by Victor Martinez before taking control with three runs in the eighth against Kelvin Herrera (0-1), who was making his major league debut.
Cabrera broke the tie with an RBI double and Don Kelly padded the lead with a two-out, two-run homer.
Doug Fister (10-13) got the win after pitching three strong innings of relief, limiting the Royals to one unearned run in the bottom of the sixth. The Royals brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning against Jose Valverde, but Salvador Perez fouled out with two runners on for the final out.
Both starting pitchers left after five innings with the score tied at 2-2.
Felipe Paulino struck out eight and walked two while yielding six hits for Kansas City, which had won eight of its last nine games. Detroit's Max Scherzer gave up five hits and a walk while striking out five.
