Recap
Jose Bautista hit the tiebreaking sacrifice fly as the Toronto Blue Jays recorded a 6-5 victory over the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
The Orioles led 5-3 before David Cooper and Adam Loewen hit homers in the seventh to tie the score. It was the first career major-league homer for Loewen, a converted pitcher selected fourth overall by the Orioles in 2002.
Mike McCoy followed with a double and moved to third on Eric Thames’ single before easily scoring on Bautista’s deep fly to center as Toronto won for the second day in a row.
Joel Carreno (1-0) pitched a hitless seventh and Frank Francisco struck out two in the ninth for his 14th save.
Hunter (3-4) gave up six runs (four earned) and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Toronto’s Dustin McGowan struggled with his control in his first
major-league start in 38 months due to a major shoulder injury. McCowan
walked five and was removed after walking the first two batters in the
fourth.
Instead of a ceremonial first pitch, Toronto pitcher Ricky Romero placed the game ball on the mound as part of the pregame 9/11 ceremonies in which both the American and Canadian flags were waving.
