Recap
Delmon Young had a solo home run and an RBI single as the Minnesota Twins halted a five-game losing streak Wednesday with a 4-2 triumph over the Kansas City Royals.
Young's career-high 20th homer of the season broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning, and he provided some insurance with his 110th RBI of the campaign in the ninth.
That was all the Twins would need, as the American League Central champs put the brakes on a dreadful skid that saw them get outscored 46-21 along the way. Minnesota had allowed double-digit runs in four of its previous five games.
Matt Guerrier (5-7) picked up the victory with a sensational relief stint, striking out four over his 1 2/3 innings of work. Matt Capps worked around a pair of baserunners in the ninth for his 42nd save of the season, and 16th with Minnesota.
Gil Meche (0-5) absorbed the loss after allowing Young's go-ahead homer.
Twins starter Scott Baker went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Royals counterpart Luke Hochevar tossed six innings, charged with two runs on seven hits.
Royals infielder Kila Ka'aihue continued his torrid hitting with a solo homer in the second inning, his third in two games.
