Recap
Placido Polanco recorded four hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Philadelphia Phillies scored five times in both the second and sixth innings to cruise to a 12-3 triumph over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.
Jayson Werth had three hits for the second consecutive day and added two RBIs as Philadelphia completed its three-game sweep with its sixth win in its last eight outings.
Wilson Valdez also drove in a pair of runs and Dane Sardinha belted a solo homer in his season debut for the Phillies, who banged out 15 hits. Ryan Howard was the lone member of the starting lineup who did not have a hit in this one.
Backed by an explosive offense, Joe Blanton (3-5) breezed to his second consecutive victory. The 29-year-old Tennessee native allowed three runs and six hits but struck out a season-high eight in 7 2/3 innings.
Fausto Carmona (6-6) did not fare well in his first career outing against Philadelphia. The 26-year-old right-hander permitted seven runs and nine hits in four innings to take the loss.
Former Phillies draft selection Jason Donald belted a two-run homer and Trevor Crowe added an RBI double for Cleveland, which dropped its fifth straight and ninth in 10 games.
