Recap

Brian Matusz outdueled Armando Galarraga and Nick Markakis homered to lead the Baltimore Orioles past the Detroit Tigers 2-1 on Saturday.

Matt Wieters added a sacrifice fly and Felix Pie doubled and scored for the Orioles, who have won four straight and five of six.

Matusz (10-12) allowed one run on just two hits while walking two and striking out nine in six innings to earn his sixth win in eight starts. The rookie left-hander has allowed a total of two runs over his last three starts and may have put himself back in the rookie of the year picture with the strong finish.

Galarraga nearly matched Matusz, surrendering two runs on three hits in eight frames. Galarraga did not allow a hit before Markakis came up with one out in the fourth and lifted his 12th homer of the season to deep right.

Pie led off with a double in the fifth and moved up on a groundout before coming in on Wieters’ sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run.

Two relievers bridged the gap to Koji Uehara, who worked the ninth for his 13th save.

Brandon Inge hit a solo home run in the second to give Detroit the early 1-0 lead.
