Recap: Tiger-Cats 19, Alouettes 16 (OT)

Tiger-Cats 19, Alouettes 16 (OT): Backup quarterback Dan LeFevour scored on a 2-yard run in overtime to lift host Hamilton over Montreal in the East Semifinal.

Starting quarterback Henry Burris was 23-for-36 for 204 yards and a touchdown pass to C.J. Gable for the Tiger-Cats, who advance to face the Toronto Argonauts in the East Final next Sunday. LeFevour led Hamilton players with 61 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Quarterback Troy Smith finished 14-for-26 for 142 yards in his first CFL playoff game and connected with Duron Carter for a touchdown for the Alouettes, who led for most of the contest played in windy, rainy conditions. Running back Tyrell Sutton rushed for 142 yards on 21 carries for Montreal.

LeFevour rushed six times for 17 yards in overtime, capping the drive with the game-winning touchdown. The Alouettes opened the extra session with a 34-yard field goal by Sean Whyte, who also sent the game to overtime with a 32-yard field goal on the final play of regulation.

Smith’s 29-yard pass to Carter with 4:33 left in the third quarter appeared to be the difference until Burris connected with Gable for a 17-yard touchdown with 1:04 remaining in the fourth. The Tiger-Cats were limited to 142 yards over the first three quarters.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Alouettes and Tiger-Cats also went to overtime when they faced each other in the 2011 East Semifinal. Hamilton won 52-44. … Tiger-Cats coach Kent Austin improved to 4-0 in the CFL playoffs.
