This match has an OVERWHLEMING pull to Nishikori here imo.
Their match a few weeks in Shanghai was a great one. Both players in form, on a laser fast top. The margin was thin, but Federer played well enough to win. Federer's 1S was 70%+, 10 aces, and definitely had the motivation to progress.
Flash forward about month, and things a bit different.
Federer is a bit out of form, his serve is definitely out of wack -- but nothing to be alarmed about. Between Copil (C), a walk over, and a shit preformance over Foggy.. postmatch, Federer delivers a golden line:
"I think both of us were far from our best, but we fought with what we had, and at the end, I think I may be served a bit better in the important moments than Fabio did," said Roger Federer after the win. He also added, “I didn‘t come to Paris to win the tournament, my goal is to win in London."
Enough said. Finally a November where Kei's body isn't absolute toast. He took it right back to Anderson after losing the week before, and will be looking for revenge here as well. Meanwhile, Federer is looking ahead to London. That obviously doesn't mean he won't try. He'll try alright. With Djokovic waiting next round, I expect Federer to go for it way too early in points. If he's on, he's going to blast Kei out of the water & it won't be close. Form and motivation indicate he's not wanting a war. Kei wants a win.
Any other month, situation, and stage of tournament and I back Fed to the death.

Completly agree with you here.. he may not play commited here knowing he has to face Djoker in Semis. He definetly dont want to play Djoker in long grinding rallies at this age on slow courts.

Federer brought his C game. Nishikori absolutely nowhere to be found. All the chances in the world to take the match by the collar, and is just completely lost.
