Computer is running really slow and acting like it's menstruating for a lack of a better description.
It appears as though it is attempting to continually load up something. I can actually hear it doing it when I am just sitting there near it as I take a few moments to glance at the tube or do something else for a few moments.
Anyone have a suggestion on cleaning this up?
Thanks to anyone in advance for suggestions.........

Do the last two pretty often, but the deleting files thing, well...........seems like I've got most of it out.
It isn't as easy for me on XP to rummage all around inside windows for hidden dead crap like in was for me in windows '98.
I can't help thinking that you're right though Mets about that... I show about 58% space left on my computer and it's my thought that it should be in the 70s at least......
Maybe downloaded music that I need to get out of the puter since all the tunes are backed up and on various Ipods....

I defrag everyday and disc compress at least every other.
I just turned my computer on about 15 minutes ago, and I could barely get it online after booting up. I could actually hear my computer trying to "load something up", when all of the standard boot up stuff had long been finished.
Had to shut down without ever doing anything online, and then boot it back up again just to be able to post, ck mail, etc.

I ran it like you said. Seems to have helped quite a bit.
Many thanks.
Took a couple of hours and found (gulp) 383 malicious tracking items. Wondering if that is more or less of a number that you might have anticipated for the problems that I was having....
I'm going to run it again tonight late as you advised....
Wish I could send you a 12 pack of our favorite brew.........

No Dennis, that's a whold buncha' spyware you had there. When you run it again see how many you come up with.
It would be best if you ran it in safe mode.
Hit the F8 button, right above you number 9 key before the windows logo comes up. Use the up arrow keys, beside the right Ctrl key to move the selection up to safe mode.
Now be prepared, the screen is going to look Fugly as hell. It's supposed to look like this. Do another scan. Where it's in safe mode it won't take very long at all.

Sometimes you will have to click to start manually. But most of the time if you wait a minute it will install automatically.
When it scans it will ask you to report any infections you have, just click OK every time. When it finds an infection it will ask this so it could take a bit if you have a good of them.
Sometimes it will ask you if you want to set a restore point. Say no everytime......

Did another avg an hour ago, and I'm back up to 38. Hmmmmm.
I can't help thinking that yahoo spam emails might be involved somewhere in this, because I really haven't gone anywhere else today except here and espn.com
Wondering if anyone has ever had their computer act a little skittish when having espn.com's live scoring/gamecast going.
