Biggest game of the year coming in a few days for Munich and Guardiola. Will his team turn things around ?
Ive been following this team closely for weeks now (i was in Munich for the DFB Pokal semi final against Bremen too). Since the announcement of Guardiola's departure for City next year, something looks broken on a field. Its a personal feeling i have. They still play like Bayern Munich thanks to their gorgeous line up but the effectiveness looks gone. they have won few matches 1-0 recently or they didnt find the back of the net past 60 mins. They are still playing possession style kind of game but its because nobody can match with them in this category but goal are hard to come by lately. Lewandoski is doing everything he can to score but its not happening, Costa beside his wonderful goal last saturday, doesnt seems in rhythm with the team. The only players that stand up to me are Muller, Ribery and Alcantara. Problem, 2 of 3 werent on a field to start the game wednesday. by the way Pep saw his mistake and almost put them on the field together at the same time. It was a tactical try from Guardiola to put Coman instead of Ribery but it didnt pay off. I dont think it was a mistake to try because of the strong midfield he put together, but as much as i like this kid, He hadnt the experience to start a CL semi in the loudest stadium in Europe. Muller's benching was not understandable to me as he has been their clearly better player on offense lately.
The last few matches and especially the one against Bremen last tuesday, i saw a team completely disconnected in the midfield area. They were troubled against a weak Bremen team (a starting line up with Yatabare and Djilobodji has to be weak ahah), out of rhythm offensively. It was really annoying to see them playing like that and dont tell me it was a meaningful game as the DFB Pokal is the hardest cup played among every European cup. During the game, i thought about the first leg against Madrid and i told my friend that they are going to be in big trouble against this team. Athetico is not afraid of team that are playing possession ball, they know very well how to handle it. The heart between the midfield and the defense is so unbelievable. And in front they have guys they can hurt you with one swing. I didnt put to much into their win last saturday against a slumping Berlin's team even though the game was again won by individual effort. Then Wednesday. I couldnt understand people still arguing Bayern will destroy them blablabla. And it happened what should have happen. Inefficient possession with not real occasion. Lewandoski was once again ghostly. Alaba's shot from well outside the box was their only real fret all game.
BUT they only lost 1-0 thanks to Torres wide open miss on a goal post late. And that's where my point is. 2-0 would have been huge to overcome. THIS IS the biggest game of the year or even for the 3 years of Guardiola in Munich. This is is last opportunity to shine before leaving. To make them past the semi. He also has some history with Mourinho and its his last opportunity to win 2 CL with 2 different club before leaving for a new team. A lot are on a line, for both Bayern and Guardiola tuesday evening in Munich.
Sooo What should we think about this game ? hmmm I was sky high on Athetico as i placed some heavy bet on them winning this Knock out round and the CL but im starting to rethink myself. Pep is too good of a tactical coach too not find a way to put his most effective team on a field. They also may have the opportunity to start Boateng at the center back position along with Benatia. Alaba would switch left and it would be an huge upgrade offensively to me. Vidal has to be benched for Muller. I really cannot see how Munich will not score. They have for me two of the few best crowd in all of Europe and im expecting the Munich crowd to be special Tuesday.
If Athetico score 1, Bayern will have to score 3 to advance. That's the only thing im worried about for them.

Considering that Bayern is going to most likely rest players for tommorow game against Gladbach and with the way Borussia has been handling them last few meetings, something in favor of the away team look tasty. Problem, Gladbach is so horrific away from home ..

Bayern will win the title if they win today. What's a better way to appease the fans with a win that seals the title? Could serve as a morale booster as well. Any other result will be a disaster ahead of the CL 2nd leg.

good stuff I don't really think they care about tomorrow game too much glabach has played munich tough last few games I can see them winning tomorrow again against Bayern
but as farest CL I thought Bayern played pretty good against Madrid they had few chances they seemed better to me even tho they lost I like atletico but think Bayern gets thru somehow GL with your bets

First of all, I agree that Bayern is not in the form they were earlier this season but the main problem I see was still the defense, not only because of greater instability on the back end but also because the likes of Benatia for example do not have the same ability as Boateng to open up the field with a good long ball.
Then, I do respect your analysis but basically a big part of your reasoning for why you changed your mind from Atletico to Bayern rests in the t 'Bayern is so strong, this is the game they have to win, last chance for Guardiola' etc. mindset. This is a similar thing I often see when people bet on a team to win because 'they have to'. Now I would agree that Bayern can do more and better against Atletico, indeed as you say he shouldn't have left Müller out. But will that be enough to overcome a 1-0 deficit against a team that hangs with 2 of the best teams in the world over entire season(s)? A team that knocked out Barca?
The big unknown for me here is to what extent did the pitch play a part. You may or may not have heard, Bayern players and officials were unhappy the gras was so dry, making the game a lot slower which obviously perfectly suited Atletico's counter play fostered through high balls and headers to send some players forward. Bayern's passing game was seriously constrained though. To me this is the most important factor, can Bayern use their game effectively this time against Atletico? As you said they haven't done so in a while and I would agree to that. I saw the Bremen game and yeah Bayern could have even got in serious trouble there wouldn't German referees award a Bayern bonus.
Overall, I am afraid Bayern won't make it to the next round. Of course I would never rule them out but this Atletico team looks like the CL winner to me this year.
Oh and one final thing, mate how can you say such thing about Djilobodji and Yatabare. Really hurts to see that even the players we would consider too strong for our club (Djilobodji that is) are getting mocked abroad. Yatabare up to now has surprised me, very dynamic and skilled only his first touch could use some improvements. Djilobodji made the Bundesliga Top 11 every week for something like the first month, since then his performance has declined a bit but I would still carry him to Bremen from London if we could keep him.

Bayern are the only team in Europe with a chance to win a Treble. Yes, 8 trophies out of a possible 9 in the last 3 years. Heady stuff indeed. And with all these additional games to play, they have managed to keep a revolving door of players in and out of the line up. And still people speak of their being in poor form. They will wrap up another trophy later today with a home win over Moenchengladbach, and yes they will utilize more fringe players. Boateng should see action today in an effort to get him ready for a possible insertion on Tuesday.
If they do win another treble this year, and I truly believe they will, what will we find left to criticize ?
As a child I remember going to Leaf games and hearing people boo Bobby Orr, guess that summed it up for me.
After all, how many teams could start a season without Ribery, Robben and Alcantra and keep on winning. None that I know.

Mikecouu....... A bit too heavy on the drama. I don't recall, nor can I find a single poster on this site who insinuated that Bayern were going to destroy Atletico Madrid.......blablabla. Actually, it was probably closer to 80% that felt A. Madrid were the bet. Last I checked though, it was a 2 leg encounter. As Kaiser mentioned, along with the TV commentators, the field was intentionally left to grow a bit longer in an effort to slow down the crisp passing of Bayern. Our fields in Germany will not be so accommodating. Should be a great game on Tuesday between 2 GREAT TEAMS. As a fan of the game, I will certainly relish the quality and abilities of both teams. Sorry you don't feel the same way about a Bayern team that has reached the epitomy of the word " DYNASTY" .

Franz.... Dont get me wrong, i havent spoken about anyone from here. It
was just all the discussion i had (and i still have) with friends or
colleagues from work. And i was mainly speaking about the first leg and
how both teams were going to get to each other. A lot of people around
me were giving Bayern too much credit, that's it.
About winning 8 trophies out of a possible 9 in the last 3 years. Yep its cool but in Europe, only one really matter every year, That's the CL. and the fact that Bayern havent reached the final since their last final in 2013 is something that you cant count out when you field a team like that every week. Winning domestic league is the least they have to do considering their payroll and the level of other team aside Dortmund. Bundesliga is like Ligue 1 (french), 1 team is dominating the league, other team are fighting each other for what its left. PSG is very likely to win back to back 4 trophies. Sure its a big accomplishment, but its no big deal considering who they have to play to lift it. BUT in CL, they havent past the quarter since the Qatari came here, and that's what people are talking about here. Dont get me wrong, im not putting Paris Saint Germain at the same level of history or greatness with Bayern Munich, its not even close.
How many teams could start a season without Ribery, Robben and Alcantra and keep on winning ? They had Robben and Alcantara to start the season but that does not really matter as long as you are one of the deepest team in Europe in term of quality.

Kaiser... I havent pointed out how Athetico have handled Real or Barca all year long or even the last 2 years because they are used to play them, they know each other very well. From a tactical stand point, that's huge. I had good talk with a close friend of mine before Tuesday game referring to how Munich is a different animal from all the Elite spanish team. I tended to agree with him because as much as Bayern love to have the ball, they are playing very differently comparing to how Barcelona set up its offense. But of course Athetico passed the test very well as Bayern did not play badly at all but they kept playing that inefficient ball movement that is not really hurting anyone right now.
Could they come out (of somehow) nowhere and play effectively ? I have this feeling. Huge factor is that game is in Munich. Last time out a Spanish team came at this stage of the competition, it was Real and they crushed Munich 4-0. in the first year of Pep as well. In his last year in Munich, the other team of Madrid will come to Munich and eliminate him again at the same stage ? Maybe but i doubt it .

Gladbach is really their nemesis. Unbeaten against Munich last 6 now
Not a really comforting game for Bayern today. The only thing encouraging was the good game up the middle from Boateng. Huge for them to have him back. Muller is a real beast.
