Once we hit 2014, Members of Congress and their staff will be shopping in the same state based health care exchanges that many average Americans will be checking out for the best deals and plans available.
Starting in 2013, an extra 0.9% Medicare tax will be charged on payroll.
Another batch of people who earn more but still have low incomes will get tax credits to offset their insurance costs. Consumers will be able to comparison shop for policies in newly created exchanges that will operate like popular online travel websites.
Insurance companies will have to sell coverage to everyone, regardless of their medical history, and will have to restrict how much they vary premiums based on age.
Companies with 50 workers or more will be required to offer insurance to their workers or pay a penalty.
What will happen to my insurance premiums?
A: Most consumers can expect to keep seeing increases in premiums and co-payments because the underlying cost of health care is expected to rise. The law contains a few mechanisms to curb premiums, but it also requires that many insurance providers make their benefits more generous, which will raise their cost. Older people could see their premiums go down because of the new age rating rules insurers will face. People who buy policies without the help of an employer could get a better deal by being able to shop on the exchanges, where comparing plans will be easier than before.
I agree with the change as it affects all not just a few.......
I think insurance companies would justify an increase in premiums no matter what happens...
but I think that if they are scared, they will Spin obamacare as a negative to make people pay for them losing money...
In my field the insurance companies are often the source of corruption,
price fixing, over-regulation and screwing with free
enterprise/enterprise/capitalism...
and the fact that the government is more involved in the game may make it worse... who knows...
I think it would be ignorant to make huge extreme assumptions...

A fact is statistics and data of past events, you cannot have fact based on expectation of a future event.
======================
And it is a fact that Obamacare has led to higher health insurance premiums.
This has happened already, I've provided references, you not understanding them or lying about them doesn't change that fact.
Further, it is an entirely reasonable conclusion that Obamacare will:
-Continue to raise premiums
-Lead to more people losing health insurance plans
Given that 1) It has already happened and 2) the most onerous, punativie, and complex portions of the law have not yet kicked in.
nor can you correlate this legislative action to ALL and any healthcare inflation
=================
Of course I never did that and provided references showing otherwise.
But given that the White House admitted Obamacare has led to premiums increasing, I think you should tell those dummies they don't know what they're talking about.

Retrace your steps. I only entered the discussion because of your constant abusive posting behavior towards others.
Practice what you preach, since you regularly berate other members over their opinions and browbeat people about fact vs opinion be prepared to back up all your opinions with full facts. That does not include any of what you posted today. If you cannot provide facts concerning your points then I suggest you refrain from posting the OPINION in the first place.

I always do.

Is that what this thread is about? I dont think so.
You came in as usual and bashed several people, many places in this thread have you arguing with opinion vs fact, and you have no idea what future effect will be or what effect on a factual percentage basis anything that Obama has done.
Inflation occurred before 2008 and it will continue with or without this legislation.
Why focus on the politician instead of the issue? Were you up in arms during Bush's 8 yrs with healthcare inflation outpacing core?
Focus on why costs have been moving higher for the last nearly two decades instead of pointing political fingers at the guy in charge.

It is impossible to make fact on a future event, that is the conclusion.
It does not matter what other correlative opinion you have, such does not provide fact for an unrelated event.
The fact has to come from the event in question, not the opinion that "No government program in the history of America has increased efficiency......" that is opinion and that opinion does not equate to a future event which has not occurred.
You have not provided any facts, where are the facts?
The issue isnt previous legislation, this thread is about the recent events and what future events MIGHT occur because of it.
This is too difficult for you, there is no way to claim fact for an event that has not happened yet.
Then you deflect to previous legislation and how premiums have gone up..irregardless of a decade plus fact that premiums and costs have outpaced inflation far prior to the legislation even being considered.

============= Actually, it is a fact. Because if it were not true, you could like cite examples demonstrating otherwise.
You have not provided any facts, where are the facts?
================ The fact is that Obamacare has increased insurance premiums. I have provided examples of this. You have ignored the examples 10 times now and pretended they aren't true.
The issue isnt previous legislation
================
I'm talking about Obamacare, the law you incorrectly believe hasn't been implemented.

You bizarrely keep asserting this despite the fact I have said twice it is reasonable to conclude the following: -Obamcare will continue to drive premium costs up. -Obamacare will continue to lead to people losing health insurance coverage
I never said they were "facts"
I said they were reasonable conclusions.
The CBO & CMS agree with said conclusions.
So you can like stop making this bizarre assertion any time now.

Your furthers are 100% pure speculation..nothing has been done yet, there are no conclusions to be made.
Really?
In an Oct. 25 email, Jennifer Hodges, the AARP’s director of compensation and benefits said, “Plan value changes were necessary not only from a cost management standpoint but also to ensure that AARP’s plans fall below the threshold for high-cost group plans under health care reform.”

Nothing's been done yet?
Examples of somethings that have already taken place because of Obamacare.

What percentage of AARP members fall under the umbrella of Obamacare, and how many of them fall under Medicare?
Nice try..
Medicare is not the issue, AARP making adjustments to their plans are of zero correlation to Obamacare, it has not been in existence long enough to draw such a concusion.
You do understand that a high percentage of AARP membership and users qualify and use Medicare, right?
I do have an opinion on government programs that perform better than the private sector would..
It is my OPINION that the national parks could not be run by any private entity because it cannot be run as a for profit endeavor, same goes for the department of transportation.
It is my opinion that the military could not be run by the private sector any more efficiently than the government does.
There are many functions that the government performs that I do not feel can be run for profit efficiently without massive cost increases and losses of benefit.

So there was no reference to AARP and plans in your message?
The plans for AARP employees, yes.
You could like bother to read the article.
Premiums for the group’s employees will rise by 8% to 13% next year, the story says. The association is changing co-pays and deductibles to avoid a 40% tax on high-cost health plans that goes into effect in 2018, according to the AP. About 4,500 people are covered by the group’s plans.
