I don't want to seem like I'm just riding favorites here....but quite frankly, I've got tired of losing money on longshots.
Best pick for today's race is.....Jimmie Johnson.
3.5/1
1) He'll be starting from the pole position (Ryan Newman is sent to the back of the field after blowing up in practice)
2) He had the best average lap speed in both of the last two practices.
3) He had the fastest speed in the first practice, third best in Happy Hour.
That being said, if you want to chase a longshot, these bets are jumping out at me (not based on practice speeds, just my previous knowledge of NASCAR).
Harvick is fetching 24/1, he won his first race here....
Kurt Busch was the fastest car in happy hour and is getting 18/1 (okay, guess that is based on speed)
Kyle Busch may be looking for a rebound after yesterday's busch race, he's getting 15/1.
For good measure, you may want to tack on a field bet of 25/1 to pick up Bobby Labonte (this man was once king at Charlotte and Atlanta) and it would be the feel-good story of the year to see this fan favorite driving the #43 to victory lane.
But the pick remains: Jimmie Johnson
