from William Hill sportsbook in Las Vegas SERIES Bruins +170 Penguins -190. GAME ONE Bruins +150 Penguins -170
NO schedule announced for game one yet BUT expect will be either Wednesday May 29th or Thursday may 30th
leaning Penguins BUT this will definately be the toughest series for the them so far, Bruins have been magical since escaping from being eliminated by the Maple Leafsgame 7 1st round. my Pennies have looked like the early 90's "Mario Penguins" with their scoring BUT will the defense hold up against the "Honey Badger Bruins"? and Pens fans better pray that "TV Geezer" stays healthy

Ratmeister! You MUST'VE seen my thread on the Pens/Bruins series, is what I was HOPING for, FOR a bettors position! Agreed mon AMI, this will be delactable...and maybe the Bruins magic continues from their first round and they BEAT Pens

LeRinkRat did you hear about Crosby? He got cleared to wear the traditional helmet. I'm just worried about someone like Krug missing the net with his hard slap shot and hitting Crosby. Don't know if a team would try and take a cheap shot but this is the playoffs and wouldn't surprise me.

Ya I saw that on varoius Penguins scribes twitter feeds. my personal opinoin is this is NOT the time for Sid to go all "macho" with his head gear and YES the Bruins WOULD take a shot at him. that's just playoff hockey

I honestly thought the senators would be their toughest test out of the east. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the isles were the toughest test when we're looking back. Anybody remember the slump the bruins were in at the end of the regular season? Penguins haven't lost to them during the regular season I think. The bruins barely got by a leafs team everyone counted out (same can be said for the isles) and they beat down team henrik lundqvist. I think the pens offense will be way too much for them.

Anyone who counted the leafs out doesn't know much about hockey, the 3rd best team in the East were the Leafs, they really outplayed the Bruins as well, if it wasn't for them being the youngest team in the league (lack of playoff experience etc), I think they would be in the east conf finals right now. You cant take away credit from the Bruins because they faced a tough first round opponent, they are a physical force and systematically wear you down. This will be an interesting series, I think Pittsburgh goes through but not with ease.

I have never seen so much disrespect towards a Bruins squad since the start of the 2011 cup finals against Vancouver.
What has Pitt done that has impressed you? They beat a Senators team that couldn't complete two passes together and by the way the LEAFS ARE MILES BETTER THAN THE SENS whose team was breaking down with injuries and guys rusty from them! The Sens D was atrocious I almost wanted to see how many offsides and defensive breakdowns they had.
The Isles gave Pitt a run and outplayed them in the Long Island. They had fast players that could finish, and would have had a real shot at that series if Nabakov wasn't such a SLU.T

I hope Marchand takes Matt Cooke out for ending Marc Savard's career- the Pens are just as dirty, pretty boy Crosby helps keep people from remembering that

Penguins haven't lost to them during the regular season I think.
yup, but they were all one goal games.
The last meeting was 5 days after the Marathon bombings at home and they were up 1-0 at home.
The 2nd meeting was was in Pittsburgh, they got outplayed but were on b2b on the road..but only LOST by ONE.
The 1st meeting they were in Pittsburgh on a b2b once again off of a tough OT slugfest win Ottawa. In that game they blew a 2-0 lead in the last 10 minutes.
The Bruins know they can compete and take them, the Bruins roster and style is more suited for the playoffs than the daily regular season grind, tougher to win many games as a defensive club

The Bruins will have some moments where they struggle in this series but Krug is shifty and way better than Redden, Bart and Hamilton play more minutes to NYR they're more prepared than when they were thrown into the fire in the leafs series. Seidenberg is back and if Ference comes back the core is ready. With the big break between rounds they'll be able to lick the wounds and come back strong.

Really like your post. Especially the part about the Bruins wearing you out mentally. Both teams are championship teams from the past, they know how to win. This by no means is a great defensive team in the B's like they were in 2011, but they have more offense and speed than previous years, and I think Rask comes up big here compared to Vokoun. Vokoun didn't even have to break a sweat in that Ottawa series.
I think the Bruins have a ton of pride and heart and I know they really feel disrespected here. They relish the underdog role! I strongly believe the Bruins have one more GOOD series in them. I think they beat Pitt in 6, and LOSE in a long Stanley Cup finals to the West.
It will be a great series vs. Pitt, but some of the stuff I read on here really angered me as a Bruins fan, never doubt their heart and poke the bear.

They've shut down illustrious offenses in the '11 lightning and canucks, kept the high scoring caps in check last year, and were stingy when needed to be against the leafs. They don't have the D of 2011, but Julien's no dumby, he has tools and brains to shut down the Pitt offense. This Pitt offense will be the best offense the Bruins have faced since their cup run, but I don't think it'll be breakdown-city like it was in Ottawa.
Anyways I'm out! Good luck on your wagers guys, and let's keep the discussion going

Sitting around arguing about the quality of the previous series opponents is pointless. What matters is motivation and matchups. No motivation advantage beyond a little Bruin disrespect. Line by line matchups and coaching skill. Pitt has a slightly better team, Boston is out of its slump. Big time playoff hockey with the series odds just about right. I'll take Boston because I always do. Games 1,2,3. Hope Ferrence comes back. Redden sits for Krug.

the way Torey Krug is playing right now I don't think Claude Julien would sit him unless Bobby Orr came back and I don't know IF he would take Andrew Ference over Matt Bartkowski either. the "Three Little Bears" have played GREAT on D since replacing Seidenberg, Ference and Redden

LoL cmon mtbaker, I respect ur opinion but u saying the lightning were a high octane offense under the 1-3-1 and the Dale Hunter coached Caps were an offensive machine is laughable.
Saying the leafs were better than the sens is also a fallacy. Reimer absolutely stole games vs the sens. The send were putting 40, 50 shots each night vs the leafs. The Bruins sleepwalking made the leafs look respectable! The leafs had the worst shot differential for a playoff team in 20 years. Their possession numbers were 2nd worst in the Nhl.
The leafs were awful this season and rode a lit of luck and goaltending to the post season!
Yes its a complete coincidence that the leafs outscored the senators by 10 this season and smacked them 4 out of 5 times, the only game they lost was a fluke goal by the senators on their own ice after being dominated by the leafs for the majority of that 3rd period. If the leafs were outshot by the sens, its because in almost all the games the sens were trailing by a large margin and the leafs didnt have half the incentive, which were when most of the pointless Ottawa shots came on net.
Your anti leafs agenda is really something, one day they are gonna win the cup, and you are going to be one unhappy man lol.

Thanks man, I agree 100%....Bruins have depth, size, and experience, they are going to the biggest test for the penguins in the east so its only fitting that this matchup came about now. Like I said, I think Pittsburgh will go through but it will not shock me if the Bruins knock them out

Agree with alot of overs. I like Pit to win the series in 5, B's win game 3 and lose the rest. Just a prediction
After reading all your comments, all I can think if is the Sabres beating both teams this year, and of course I bet against Barfalo and lost . Anything can happen. I'm thinking the speed and scoring of Pit out weighs Boston's size, etc -pokie, pokie mr bear , Iain't skeered Go Pens !!! Chara BOOOOOOOO!!!
Be the Hammer Not the Nail - GO BILLS and take the SABRES with you!!!

LeRinkRat did you hear about Crosby? He got cleared to wear the traditional helmet. I'm just worried about someone like Krug missing the net with his hard slap shot and hitting Crosby. Don't know if a team would try and take a cheap shot but this is the playoffs and wouldn't surprise me.
but on the high note, Crosby will not have restricted vision anymore.sick to say but I heard him say it interfered when he was looking down at the puck, but against boston he better not look down to much

Just back from 3 days of salmon fishing on the border of Maine and New Brunswick Province in a camp with no phone or cell phone service.
I will be on the Bruins for the split in the first 2. Bruins have found that "thing" they were missing all the second half of the season...namely emotional hockey with a punishing forecheck. There are eerie similarities to their Cup run in 2011 when they should have been bounced in the first round (2011 Habs hit Chara's leg in OT of game 7) and used that as a wake up call.
I mean as poor as the offense is...the one thing the Rags can do is play defense and the B's flat out dominated them in their own end for just about the whole series. Pens have been subject to defensive lapses and their goaltending is not as good as Henrik although Vokoun has been stellar.
I am not saying the Bruins will definitely win the series but I think it is not much more than a coin flip and I would be utterly shocked if it goes less than 6 games. Hoping the Bruins can grind them down...something that Isles and Sens really don't do.
Of course I spent 3 years living in Pittsburgh but there is no doubt where my allegience lies.
I agree with a lot of overs...except maybe Game 1 when the long layoff and cautious feelout process will likely be in play.

Both sides are trying to justify who played the better opposition, just agree that this is the first real test either team has faced. the east was a joke this year and the two best teams are here. this was as predictable as the nba.
bruins are definitely getting disrespected, the line against the rangers, in hindsight, -115 for the series, was also a joke.
the defenses for both teams are going to be the reason either team advances. bruins have three potential scoring lines and the pens havent faced anything like that yet. leafs were an offensive team and we saw how the bruins healthy d struggled against them.
seidenberg to me looks to be clearly playing with an injury and that is something to watch. they wont be able to win without him playing efficient big minutes.
pens should be able to get this done if they stick to relying on their speed and skill and not try to engage the bruins physically. everyone keeps referring to 2011 and its not coincidence the flyers were the only team to get bounced with ease by the bruins. also helped that they played without a goalie too lol. but this should be a long series. the over 5.5 games interests me...i have not seen a price yet tho
also mentioned this before, whether its warranted or not, i still worry a bit about vokoun.
