...that's why they won SB 58. They recovered the punt that hit the heel of a SF blocker at the end of the 3rd quarter. It was pure luck; they were on the right side of variation. That is the play that changed the the outcome of the game.
Of course it won't be remembered that way. Folks will remember Mahomes doing his magic again to win another Super Bowl. And Reid out coached Shanahan. But that is not the story of SB 58.
The truth is, KC got lucky and SF didn't. That's why they won.

If we are playing that game SF got 5x more lucky than KC in the previous two weeks. Should we go down the list?

If Pacheco doesn't fumble, maybe they score and never look back. It becomes a one-sided game. If CMac doesn't fumble, and the Niners take the opening kick and march it downfield for a TD, maybe they don't look back. The ball bounces. Sometimes it's in your favor, and sometimes it's not, but to say luck had anything to do with this game is comical. The Chiefs were lucky to have one of the greatest QBs of all-time. The Chiefs were lucky that the Niners forgot Travis Kelce even existed simply because he had a rough first half. The missed the coverage ability of Dre Greenlaw. If anything, the tide of the game changed with his injury. Yet the Niners still had the lead late. Winners win. Lovers look for excuses.

When you get an opportunity or turnover against KC you have to take advantage of them to the fullest!!! IE: first drive they had to get 7, no they fumbled. Second- the OT drive against KC you have to score a TD!

The Chiefs outplayed the 49ers. More Total Yards. More Yards per Play. More Yards per Pass Attempt. More Yards per Rush. Better Passer Rating. Better QBR. The Chiefs have done this over and over. When the game is on the line, the Chiefs take control. The game went to OT, KC held SF to a field goal, and drove 75 yards for a TD. They won the game because they ae a better team. SF has better stats on the season because they played the softest bunch of defenses I've ever seen on an NFL schedule.

Yes, exactly. That is all that matters--to be on the right side of luck. Jesus Ferguson said it in a Cardpalyer interview: You show me the luckiest poker player, and I'll show you the best poker player.

Dre Greenlaw's loss was huge..... #48 will become the night manager at Food Lion...
Greenlaw is one of my favorite linebacker in the NFL, and it's the position I pay the most attention to. Warner and Greenlaw make that defense tick. They are exceptional at both stopping the run and in coverage. Without them locking down the middle, the defensive secondary then gets exposed. A secondary that has missed Hufanga's presence as well. I don't think Fat Travis goes off for 91 yards in the 2nd half if Greenlaw is in there.

I had KC. Just trying to be objective and philosophical about SB 58.
The truth is, the game changed on a fluke play. It wasn't on the level of the Immaculate Reception, but it had the same effect. It altered the outcome of the game. Old Mo switched horses. Mahomes knew it too, and he made the most of it.

Another thing I noticed that I think affected the game. Another player I like, Big Creed, had several low snaps yesterday that affected drives. This is the game within the game. So many factors. KC looked like the better team though. Saying they were lucky is comical.

That did not change the game. Maybe you can say the missed PAT but you can't look at things in that kind of linear fashion. Several factors affect a game. And just because one thing happens or does not, you can't make assumptions abour possible resulting outcomes. When plays happen like this in the 4th quarter, yeah, they csn be backbreaking but you can't say it changed the tide of the game. It was a defensive battle. They still had the lead late. The better team won.

As in all games there were several "lucky breaks"---KC took advantage and SF did not take advantage of their breaks...game could have gone the other way easily, but thats how almost all games are.

Damn, you guys make up any excuse you can think of. The Chiefs had several injuries to key starters. Omenihu and Nnadi were out on Defense. The Chiefs best Linenan was out, Thuney is one of the best Guards in the NFL. The 49ers were healthier than they've been all year.
Everyone said how the Chiefs run defense was so bad, 29th in bla, blah, blah. Nobody bothered to notice that it was bad when Nick Bolton was hurt and missed 6 games. The last 6 weeks, the Chiefs run defense was better than the 49ers, yielding 4.2 YPC. Niners padded their stats by playing a bunch of crap teams with horrible defenses. McCaffrey had 3.6 YPC yesterday. That's one of the worst averages that he's had since he joined the team. The Chiefs beat the 49ers. They were unlucky to have several starters out, but they won anyway. Quit fucking whining about luck. The 49ers were outplayed and they lost another Super Bowl.
