probably the only positioning battle thats actually worth anything... also, the west's 5th-7th spot.
anyways, was wondering... if they both (mem and gsw) end up with the same record, what happens?

From DraftKings article:
" ...The Dubs [Warriors] are trying to avoid dropping to the 9-10 game, though it may be in their best interest to avoid the Lakers in the 7-8 game. With that, we could see Golden State sit players and try to lose against the Pelicans to drop down to the easier contest against the San Antonio Spurs. This would also mean the Dubs would have to win two games, likely against the Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies. The thing is, that may be easier than a one-game playoff vs. LeBron James and Anthony Davis at the end of the day."
Kerr has been pretty vocal about resting Curry as well. So, I'm actually thinking that a bunch of starters will sit this one out. That's just me though.

Right now both are standing 37:33 with two games left. They play each other on Sun, and their H2H right now is 1:1.
So, the winning team on Sunday holds at least a 38:34 record and owns the tiebreaker. The losing team on Sunday will have 38:34 at most. Whoever wins Sun, claims the 8th seed. Both can afford to lose tonight.

That DraftKing article is not getting it sorted out.
The 8th seed needs to beat the Lakers OR the winner of the 9th seed vs SAS.
The 9th seed needs to beat SAS AND the loser of LAL/8th seed.
So, lets say GSW reaches 8th. They now need to beat LAL OR MEM/SAS. If they reach 9th however, they would have to beat SAS AND MEM/LAL.
You would have to get very fancy to argue for 9th here.

I am sure they will.
With fancy I mean an argument like the following: Lets say whoever finishes 8th loses against the Lakers for sure ( which is fancy and stupid) and whoever finishes 9th auto-wins against SAS ( which is also stupid to assume). So, regardless of who of GSW and MEM finishes 8th/9th, they would surely meet again in the 2nd round one game shootout of the playin. And now you could argue that the 9th seed ( coming of a win against SAS) would have better momentum and a psychological edge compared to the 8th seed ( coming of a loss against LAK).

yea that draft kings article is stupid... if they were 8th, they still have to fight either mem/sas assuming they lose to lakers. if they were 9th they have to win twice in a row

I would think the objective would be to finish 8th.
If you finish 7-8 you only need to win once and if you finish 9-10 you need to win 2 in a row to advance.
Warriors -2 is the play tonight against Pels

Of course they try to finish 8th. But neither MEM nor GSW needs to win tonight in order to achieve that. Winning today does not help at all.
Sunday is the big game. Whoever wins that finishes 8th. They will do today whatever they consider best for Sunday, may it be benching their starters or may it be playing their starters today.

@Crater
therein lies the risk... i think gsw and mem both wins tonight, but you're right... even if 1 wins and the other loses, it has no bearing on who would get the 8th spot. only their game against each other matters...

Where do you get your updates for injury list? I just saw Memphis update just now on ESPN. I'm assuming you were referring to that (an hour ago)

@Froggy80
Yes, I was; I didnt know exactly who they announced sitting at that time though.
I am taking my info from https://www.nbcsports.com/edge/basketball/nba/injury-report . They are the quickest I know, but it is still not enough to beat the bookies ( a few years ago it was). Still, they do usually a good job for me as they update well in between "in" and "out" ( i.e. list someone as questionable quickly) so you know what is at stake linewise and can observe a line closer if you like to.
At the time of my post I was watching the line shift heavily at the betfair exchange, and you could see it was not just about one player sitting.
