Defending the 3 point line will be key against the Knicks. Del Negro emphasized this point in practice on Saturday.
The Clips are 0-11 SU when allowing teams to make ten or more 3 pointers and shoot 40% while doing it. The Knicks are 17-4 SU when they reach these same numbers.
The Clips do not defend the 3 ball well--giving up the 5th worst % in the league(37.7%).
However, now with a healthy and veteran roster, I expect better rotations and much more focus today, especially after a miserable loss. The Clips are, imo, the highest basketball IQ team in the NBA and can make up for lack of practice with their overall experience. The Clips are #1 in the league in opponents' FG attempts per game. They make teams earn their points and a NY team reliant on 3's for 35% of its shots might encounter some difficulty. Five Knicks average four or more 3 point attempts(Melo, Kidd, Smith, Novak, Felton) and except for Melo, they are all eminently guardable by Clips personnel. This Knick team relies more on savvy than athleticism and could meet some resistance today against an equally savvy but more athletic Clips crew.
On the other side, I have not been impressed by the Knicks recent schedule. They haven't played a true NBA championship contender in one month and haven't faced a a top 10 offense since January 3 against San Antonio. Remarkable stretch. They have been feasting on offensively challenged teams. The Clips are no such thing. The pick and roll is one of the plays the Knicks have severe problems defending and CP3, Bledsoe and Billups can all run this with efficiency. Missing Camby and Wallace doesn't help with the Knicks interior defense. Chandler is great, but no one else in the Knicks frontcourt is even close to a good defender. The Knicks are also not a good rebounding team(#23) and are bottom 10 in opponent's eFG% and PPS.
Griffin, Odom, Butler and also Barnes and Hill bring an array of frontcourt abilities and athleticism that I can't see the Knicks matching up well against throughout the game.
The Clips come to play at MSG. Should be fun to watch.

now you have me re-thinking this game. good breakdown But I wonder how healthy CP is after just one game back. You are right about recent NYK schedule which has not been that impressive.

I don't know how you trust this team yet. We don't know if they're truly healthy and they are in a very similar spot as when they played Toronto and then the Celtics as far as the traveling situation goes. East to Miami and now East to NY. I think you have excellent points in your writeups if this team is healthy. I was leaning Under and post #14 makes me like it even more. Billups and CP should definitely be able to slow down Kidd and Felton from draining any 3's. I guess that only leaves Melo. I suspect Griffin, Barnes, and Odom will share duties on Melo which is good because they have the depth at that position if anyone gets tired. Bol.

with the line dropping on the total and people seemingly betting the over I would take a shot at the under 192. Early game that both teams will want to win badly. Knicks want to stay within striking range of the Heat and the Clippers are trying to put the pieces back together (due to injuries) on a long road trip. I see a close game but I think the total stays under. 95-91 type score. Good luck.

@Kazual12 NY and LAC had flight delays. Billups also makes the Clips better defensively against Kidd and Felton. I suspect that's why the total went down. Bol.
