The Angels just can't seem to catch a break when facing the Boston Red Sox. The Angels' starter, Ervin Santana, is 1-2 with a 4.61 ERA in 7 starts against Boston. The Red Sox are 9-0 against the Angels this year. Boston is hot right now, averaging 6.1 runs per game in their last 7 games with a .282 team batting average and a .331 team OBP. The Angels have not beaten the Red Sox once this season, and have lost 3 straight games (1 against Toronto and 2 against the BoSox). Over their last 7 games, they have only averaged 2.7 runs per game, a .244 team batting average, and a .292 OBP. Another matter of discussion is the bullpen differentials between the two teams. The Angels' bullpen this season has averaged a 1.612 WHIP in all road games and a 4.90 ERA. The Boston bullpen (in all home games) has averaged a 1.227 WHIP and a 3.59 ERA. Now, a lot of people will say that Josh Beckett's 7.13 ERA over his last 3 starts is not worth laying (-150) odds on. I would like to point out the following. Beckett's last 3 starts have been against the Cleveland Indians, the New York Yankees, and the Texas Rangers. Both the Texas and New York starts were away games. Ervin Santana has only a slightly more respectable 6.88 ERA over his last 3 starts, and he has faced Baltimore, Kansas City, and Toronto (hardly the Yanks and the Rangers... although Toronto IS good). 2 of those games (Kansas City and Toronto) were home games. In Santana's last road game (against Baltimore), he surrendered no less than 9 runs over 3 2/3 innings. I look for the Red Sox to continue their dominance of the Angels here. I may also make a play on the OVER 9.5.
